    Default I made a booboo

I had a couple of varigated babies attached to the mother leaf. they are cute little tiny plants with pink and white leaves no green at all yet except on the mother leaf. Never having grown such violets I thought they were ready to cut the mother leaf off. Right after that I read that they need the green mother leaf up until they have some green leaves. They haven't died or anything. I just did it recently and read somewhere not to do all on the same day. Will these little pink mini plants still make it? Anybody know this one? Anyway I read somewhere such babies need the mother leaf for providing Chlorophyl.

They probably will not make it. What you heard is true - they have no chlorophyll, so they cannot make their own food yet. They often have to stay connected much longer than normal because of that. Many of us have learned things like that the hard way, unfortunately.

I'm late in responding, but if they are still alive ... I've heard of some people misting with a fish emulsion fertilizer mixture to help add some green to their variegated plants. Might be worth a try. but go easy.

These are the tiniest little white/pink babies. What has happened is that they have managed to turn a little green. They are still alive but the most fragile things I have ever seen. Somehow this has now become a challenge--to get them to grow. I think they must be miniatures. I got them as a door prize--unlabeled!

A Little green means they're headed in the right direction. They maybe slow growing but... where there is life there is hope! Keep us updated!

It's great that they are making it. I've had them go both ways - never sure why! I had teeny tiny babies break off the mom leaf last fall. The leaves were the size of sunflower seed (it was a standard). All three lived! They grew very slowly, but they made it. It's always worth a try.

A friend of mine tried to repot an older violet that had a woody stock. I told her some of the things to do as read here, but whatever happened i was finally able to collect three baby leaves from the rotting crown she had left. As an experiment, I am trying to root these undeveloped leaves as this violet was very old and sentimental to her. I have them with other cut leaves and I am hoping they pick up a survival hormone from their surrounding. tHey are still green, don't know if the stems are rotted, afraid to look..

    Exclamation Very Interesting

I'm glad this topic came up. I am experiencing the process of rooting leaves and waiting for babies to grow. I saw the first few tiny leaves of a baby peeking out of a mother leaf. I got really excited since this is the first baby any of the mother leaves have produced.

If you're little mostly-white babies are still mostly-white, try putting 1/4tsp of epsom salts in a gallon of water and watering with that. Should green them up nicely to get 'em growing quicker.
