Some flowers and some leaves

TFS, Merlin. Are you planning to put down any leaves from Rob's Cherry Soda? If so, when the babies are big enough, put my name on one of them. That is beautiful, and your pictures are wonderful. I've been trying to get pictures of a few of mine, but I guess I'm not a very good photographer!! OR, I have a lousy camera! LOL
Thanks again for the wonderful pictures.

Glenda - I'll keep you in mind for a Cherry Soda baby. But truthfully, I really don't have room to start a bunch of leaves and let them grow into babyhood. Sending you a leaf or two once the plant reaches maturity is another thing entirely...
Glad you liked the pics.

One thing to consider is sending a leaf pot to someone. You can start the leaf in a pot, get it rooted, and wait until it produces a few babies. Then send it. You don't have to grow it out. I have a couple plants that people like, so I keep a leaf pot going at all times from each of them. When someone wants one, I send it. I'm not saying anyone has to do this! Just that it is an option over sending leaves. Some people prefer leaf pots because they don't feel adept as starting leaves.

I would be delighted to have a leaf or two from Rob's Cherry Soda. Or, doing it the way Sparkle suggests. Either way, I would be delighted!! Thank you!!

I guess my problem would be the "pot" part of the leaf pot. Since I only use Oyamas, sending a leaf pot becomes pretty pricey. On the other hand, is it reasonable to send a plantlet "bare root" with just a damp covering on the roots?

I've never tried it, but this could possible work. Cut the top off a small water bottle, plant the plant in the bottom ant tape the top and bottom of the bottle back together. Stabilize it in the box before shipping and mark it this end up. It will also help keep in humidity. It'll only be in the mail a couple of days so it should work. Like I said I’ve never tried this, just a thought.

On option would be to get some 3 oz Solo cups from the grocery store - like 100 of them for a few bucks. Remove the roots/soil from the Oyama, then put it into the Solo cup - you may or may not need to add a bit more soil. . Then, put the Solo cup in an 8 oz foam/plastic cup - like a coffee cup. You may need to creatively use plastic wrap to carefully keep the soil in place without hurting the babies.
Someone else shipped me one recently and did it differently, but I can't remember. Gliss, if you read here, please help explain what you did :-).
I've also had people ship me bare root AVs. They remove all the soil and wrap the roots separately. It's worked well.
Last idea is to cut a piece of plastic wrap. Set the soil/root ball in the plastic wrap. Carefully wrap the plastic wrap around the soil. You can use rubber bands to keep it in place, though with a leaf pot, not sure if that would work - so you might have to be creative.

Sounds good, then. :) Still, it'll be a while before the plant is big enough to harvest...

I sent leaves yesterday to a dear friend; I wanted to send a leafpot so I used the idea above of wrapping in plastic wrap. It worked! I took pictures - not sure if I can post...
